Corporate Talk - Supporting Parents Through Fatigue, Stress and Burnout

I had the pleasure of speaking with the Lloyds Family Matters Network which is part of the Lloyds Banking Group, on a topic that is deeply relevant for so many families right now: parenting through fatigue, stress and burnout.

The level of engagement throughout the session reflected just how important this conversation is. Many parents are navigating the daily juggle of work, home life and everything in between, often while running on very little energy themselves.

The feedback was incredibly encouraging:

  • 80% of colleagues said the session was a very good use of their time

  • 19% said it was a good use of their time

For me, that speaks to both the need for this kind of support and the value of creating space to talk about it openly. I have also since heard that colleagues are recommending the replay to others, which is always lovely to hear.

During the session, we explored how fatigue and stress can quietly shape family life. When we are depleted, our capacity is reduced, patience can wear thin, and small moments can feel much bigger than they are. This is often when parents begin to question themselves or feel that they are not getting it “right.”

We spoke about recognising the early signs of burnout, both in ourselves and in our children, and how stress can influence behaviour on both sides. A key part of the conversation focused on shifting away from pressure and perfection, and instead looking at small, manageable changes that can make a meaningful difference day to day.

This included simple strategies to:

  • respond rather than react in challenging moments

  • support emotional regulation for both parent and child

  • create connection, even when energy levels are low

  • reduce the mental load by focusing on what is realistic, not ideal

The intention is always to offer practical, compassionate support that fits into real family life, not add another layer of expectation.
