Working with families
Parents come to me for all sorts of reasons.
Sometimes family life feels really difficult. Sometimes there is one particular thing that keeps getting stuck. Sometimes neurodivergence, school, behaviour, anxiety, relationships or big emotions are part of the picture. And sometimes things are broadly okay, but you know something could feel different.
You do not need to arrive with a neat problem or know exactly what kind of support you need.
My job is to help you zoom out, understand what is happening and work out what might make a difference for your child, your family and you.
I work with curiosity, connection and communication at the heart of everything. I will ask questions, notice patterns, challenge your thinking when needed and help you turn what we discover into practical changes that work in real family life.
We start with the family you actually have, not the family anyone thinks you ought to have.
Let's get curious about what is really going on
By the time families find me, they have usually already tried quite a lot.
They've read the books, listened to the podcasts, searched online, asked friends, spoken to school and, increasingly, asked AI. They often have plenty of ideas about what they could do. The difficult bit is knowing what is actually going to make a difference in their family.
That's where I come in.
I don't arrive with a parenting rulebook or a list of things you should be doing. Instead, we get curious.
We zoom out from the difficult morning, the bedtime battle, the meltdown, the child who won't listen, the friendship problem or the behaviour that seems to make absolutely no sense, and start looking for the patterns.
What is happening here? What might be sitting underneath it? What does this child need? And what could we do differently?
Sometimes the answer is surprisingly practical. A different routine. A clearer boundary. Fewer words. A conversation that needs to happen. Something that needs to stop being negotiated every single day.
Sometimes we discover that what looked like a behaviour problem isn't really about behaviour at all.
And sometimes parents arrive convinced that nothing is changing, until we zoom out and notice all the small things that tell us it already is.
My work comes back, again and again, to three things:
Curiosity
Before we rush to fix something, let's understand it.
Connection
Children are much more able to work with us when they feel understood and connected to us.
Communication
Not simply what we say to our children, but how we listen, what we notice and how we communicate as a whole family.
There isn't a formula for family life. Your children are different. You are different. Your circumstances are different.
So the work we do together needs to be different too.
Different families need different levels of support
Sometimes one conversation really can change the direction of family life.
Other times, there is more to unravel. You might know what you want to change, but need some help putting it into practice. There may be several things happening at once. Or life might be throwing so much at your family that you need someone who can stay alongside you as things unfold.
That is why I don't offer one standard coaching package.
There are different ways we can work together, depending on what is happening in your family, how much support you would find useful and how closely you would like me alongside you.
And you don't need to work out which one you need.
